What's Really In A Name?

If you have Lupus, I'm certain you have said, "Lupus doesn't define me."

Those with Lupus have learned that you're more than you're disease. You're the same person as you were before your diagnosis. Although you now know why you are in so much agony. However, after your diagnosis you begin to hear other terms you may not have heard prior to your diagnosis or even in the beginning of the diagnosis.

Now that you have Lupus and you've joined support groups, you're likelihood of hearing Lupus terms, mainly referring to oneself, is in the neighborhood of 99.9%. Some of the terms are:

These Lupus terms, are just that, terms. You're a survivor of Lupus, a warrior because you're fight this disease as hard as you can, spoonie is a person who is in need of extra spoons when they do too much in one day and you're a Lupie because you have Lupus.

None of these terms define you anymore than Lupus defines "YOU"!

First and foremost, you are "YOU" before you are anything other name. Don't loose your identity. None of this defines you anymore than your other terms, such as wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, etc...You are "YOU" first. Don't loose sight of "YOU".

Lupus is what you have, it doesn't have you~
