As if having lupus isn't bad enough, but having severe migraines on top of lupus makes my brain fog a real cluster and can be one of the most frustrating of all.
Not only do I have issues expressing myself, but most daze (as I like to refer to it) I have trouble remembering things. Even if I write lists, such as if I have to go to the store, I'll forget items on the list. If I have my calendar, in my cell phone set to remind me of something, I have to remember to turn the volume up on my phone to hear the calendar go off. It's all about memory. My husband will even email me to remind me to take my meds. But then again, I have to remember to turn my volume up on my smart phone to hear my email coming through.
Now, when I have severe migraines coupled with the lupus fog; that's double trouble. My memory from the migraine is shot. It's almost like I have lost some brain cells from the severe migraine. If I try to say something, my brain is thinking one thing and my mouth says another and the word that comes out of my mouth is nothing like what I want it to be. If I want to say my sons name "Christian" it may come out "Kristen". People that haven't been around me when this happens may think it's funny or I'm being funny, but it's quite frustrating.
The lupus fog and severe migraines seem to be happening more often and when they happen more often I'm beginning to have what appears to be a "seizure type activity happen at night. This was suspected prior but nothing appeared on the EEG's or any other neurological test. It's quite bizarre what happens to me. It happens more often when I'm completely exhausted rather than not. I'll still be in a REM state and it feels like there is a sudden burst or surge that goes through my brain. Almost like a surge of energy or burst of energy. It only lasts for about 20-30 seconds. The first time it happened I was very concerned. Now it happens so often I know I'll come out of it and be fine.
